One of the reasons textual critique is so complicated in Chopin is that generally two or three first editions were issued at roughly the same time: one in Germany, one in France, and sometimes one in England as well. Those were prepared and corrected independently of each other, so they often present different versions of the piece and it’s not even possible to tell which one is the ‘earlier’ or the ‘latter’ version.
