Indeed, there's a standard simple way to allow unsigned applications and this is normal for OS X, and has been for some time (although it is slightly hidden). I can confirm this continues to work at the current OS X version 10.13 High Sierra. The technique is mentioned above.
No need to delete Mac from the supported systems. Andrew
