Forgive me, but that makes no sense. LilyPond is not a WYSIWYG-style
editor. I am failing to understand how the behavior of those
graphically-interactive tools matters in the slightest to the output of
LilyPond.
It has already been shown how to get LilyPond to emit empty measures if
that is truly desired, so I think any continued discussion needs to be
focused on *why* this is even an important or useful feature.
What is the point of these empty measures? That is, to what degree is
seeing extra staff lines going to help the process of using LilyPond, a
text-driven tool?
I think LilyPond's current output behavior is ideal, since it very
precisely renders exactly what you input. If you provide multiple
instruments with varying lengths of music, then you will see staves of
varying lengths. It is a strong visual indicator of the discrepancy.
