most probably this is https://github.com/frescobaldi/frescobaldi/issues/1244. I commented in the issue you opened (https://github.com/frescobaldi/frescobaldi/issues/1267) with a test to confirm that it is the same problem. Unfortunately I haven't yet found a workaround. I asked for help at PyQt's mailing list but still with no answers after 10 days. A couple of days ago I wrote also to MacPorts' mailing list.
