Another approach could be to add a new first chapter, maybe named “Discovering LilyPond”, containing a handful of examples without much commentary.
Those could illustrate various features such as <<…>> without a \score around, \score, \book, chords and lyrics, as well as PDF, SVG and MIDI output.
