That is correct, however, I was going to try and load that extension manually 
anyways, see below.

Indeed it does not - that was the whole point of this thread, though it did get 
sidetracked with readline support, which wouldn't be a problem if the REPL 
server worked.

I do recognize this kind of functionality would be something a subset of power 
users would probably want. I would be fine having to compile LilyPond myself in 
that case.
