`\rounded-box` does not displace its argument, it only adds a box around it. In 
the first case, the stencil has protrusion on the left (the start of its 
horizontal extent is negative). This doesn't happen in the second case because 
`\table` realigns everything. Try

```
\markup \left-align \rounded-box { foo }
```
