Hi;

  What is the "correct" key for the Clarinet solo from the Mozart
Clarinet Concerto, 2nd movement, transcribed for Piano?

  My wife rreally likes the piano transcription I found on 8notes.com
in C Major. She has found versions in D Major. She wonders what the
"correct" key should be. I used Lilypond to engrave the 8notes (C
Major) transcription. I've also used Lilypond to transpose that to A
Major. I don't think that is the "correct" thing to do.

  Mozart wrote for the Basset Horn, pitched in A, not pitched in the
Bf or A Clarinet. They key of the 2nd movement is D Major. (I think)

  Does anyone have some guidance here?

  The melody is very simple and the tempo is slow, of course the music
is hauntingly beautiful. My wife, a self-taught, absolute
beginner-level piano player who has a much better inner ear for pitch
than her level of piano playing, has doubts that the C Major is
"correct" although it is the easiest to play.

  Should I try to engrave a D Major transcription, transpose what I
aleady have to D major, or something else?

Thanks for your time,
Ken Wolcott
