Further to this: after doing some more experiments, I've found that the
synthesizer I wanted to use ("sfizz") actually mis-implements pitch bend
in such a way that every pitch bend message affects *every* channel; so
even with postprocessing to separate the different pitch bend values into
separate channels within a file, it's not going to work. Now I'm
implementing a split into entirely separate MIDI files, but that's pretty
clearly outside the scope of Lilypond.
