Hi Don,

Notice that the /Applications directory is limited to read/write for the owner "system" and the Group "admin". Which means that if your user is not part of the admin group you can't write to that directory.

Personally, I put most non-Apple applications that I use frequently in an Application folder I created in my home directory, including Lilypond. I also have another folder in my home directory named Scores, where I keep, um, scores.

I just installed LilyPond 2.6.0-2 on OS X 10.3.9. When I attempt to
compile the example that comes with LilyPond, I get the following error
message in a popup window entitled Process:

 Cannot write program directory
This program must be installed before using.

I am running the code from a non-admin account. The code was installed in /Applications.
