Thanks for both of the replies! Invisible afterGrace works but takes up some space before the barline, so it's not so good if the tie is coming off the last quaver in the bar. At least we can override the direction of the laissez vibrer ties: in the top voice \once \override LaissezVibrerTie.direction = #UP as \laissezVibrer and in the bottom voice \once \override LaissezVibrerTie.direction = #DOWN <f h> \laissezVibrer (this is using German note names, \include "deutsch.ly" is set).
At least the laissez vibrer tie directions are now consistent with the other ties, even if they don't hang beyond the barline. It's probably good enough for purpose :) Thanks again. Silas -- Silas S. Brown http://ssb22.user.srcf.net
