Personally it would make sense for the snippet to become official, though new 
LilyPond users should always be aware of the longstanding workaround as 
described in the manual 
(https://lilypond.org/doc/v2.24/Documentation/notation/special-rhythmic-concerns#grace-notes).
 I am not a skilled Schemer to attempt to improve the code, though it would be 
fun to spend a free day dissecting it all to understand what each component 
does.

What was the latest LilyPond version that this snippet worked, do you know? Is 
it 2.23 or 22? If I can figure out the way to get these older version of 
LilyPond work on my computer, I would love to take a look...
