Quoth Don Blaheta:

A followup: I have good news and bad news. The good news is, VERSICLE
and RESPONSE are actually Unicode characters (at code points 2123 and
211F, respectively), available in the "Letterlike symbols" block.

The bad news is, the only font they're in on a Mac system is Apple
Symbols, and its glyphs for them are absolutely atrocious. :P
