explains step by step how to try a simple example on your operating system.
Note that LilyPond does not really have anything to do with LaTeX
(although there is a separate utility included with LilyPond which lets
you include LilyPond examples in a LaTeX document).

dear colleague
I have downloaded (successfully apparently) the lilypond
application for MacOS X. Now I try to build a file and typeset a
simple example, unsuccessfully. Can you indicate to me an
elementary version of a file that I can typeset successfully, and
modify when necessary, with the necessary commands. I am aware of
LaTeX that I use for scientific purposes.
Many thanks in advance (the example-file that is supposed to
appear when opening lilypond.app is not available to me)
