I found an example of meter change as well as a tie and a slur inside a repeat alternative, in Hindemith, "Elementary training for musicians", p. 70. The meter change is repeated before the ":||", as in
  \time 4/4
  ...
  \alternative {\time 2/2 ... \time 4/2}
  \alternative ...
Ties, slurs and phrase marks that start within the alternative and connect to the beginning of the repeat are drawn hanging.

LilyPond does not have a capacity to check that, which is why \unfoldRepeats does not work correctly in the musical sense.
