mulitple voices

I'm currently having some difficulties with polyphony. I don't  
understand what I've missed in the statement:
{\time 5/4 <<{\voiceOne <a'4 fis> <gis e> fis2 e4}\\{\voiceTwo s2 e4~  
e8[ d] cis4}\\{\voiceThree cis4 h h8[ a] h2}>>}
But it fails, and it fails pretty hard.
