I don't know, what could be wrong with this snippet:
\version "2.11.49"
\relative { \compressMusic #' (1 . 2 ) {c4 c g' g a a g2 } }
Is it a bug of the version 2.11.49?
In the NEWS section, you'll see that \compressMusic has been renamed \scaleDurations.
