If you have followed the steps 1 and 2, lilypond performs the step 3 creating this file. I agree with you in a point: "File->Save" leaves the file with its preset name in an unknown place, whereas "File->Save as" gets this preset name lost and you'll have to write down your own name, do it, please save the file as whatever.ly into the Desktop as step 1, then follow the step 2 and you will obtain a PDF called whatever.pdf as step 3. > There's just no > getting the program to run on my computer (I downloaded 'for windows' > version, and have the VISTA OS).
