\remove "Time_signature_engraver"
\override Stem #'transparent = ##t
this has the effect of removing all the clefs from everywhere except the very
first system of the piece. How can I stop this? I think I understand that if
there are no bar lines there is no new system but this seems odd.

BTW the removes and override does do what I want it to in appearance.
