The code examples in the documentation are not consistent in this respect. For example, in the section in the NR on simultaneous expressions (http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.13/Documentation/user/lilypond/Single-voice#Simu ltaneous-expressions), every code sample has both the left and right braces tight up against the notes they surround.
