I spent about 30 minutes trying to make it smaller -- I must admit that I have a huge "not invented here" bias against beginner-oriented documentation. But the Crash Course really does an excellent job of going from step to step. ABC: this is a simple example, gets the point across. But skeptics will immediately ask "well, what about non-ABC notes?" alterations+chords: this answers those immediate questions. Pop: demonstrates more complex (chords+lyrics) without making the notation scary. I'd consider removing the "orchestral parts" section, but the notion of variable re-use is so widely used in any serious typesetting that I really think it's worth introducing this early. Also, there isn't a lot of text on the page. New users will flip from example to example, but that's fine. At this point, all we want is for them to see those constructs. My only regrets are that we don't have pictures for the last two sections. A screenshot of lilypondtool (with that piano keyboard) would be great for the final section. I have no clue what we could use in the "beginner documentation" section, but for balance I'd like to get /something/ in there.
