Yes, lilypond is about notation, but notation has very different aspects. In Lilypond you enter the music and lilypond will do the layout - that's the basic principle. If you want to enter things exactly as they should be printed, that's the opposite side of the scale. Then you are probably better off using an aplication like SCORE.
