Maybe I'm not seeing it. Can you explain it to me? I understand how
to set the vertical position of a rest, and I understand how to
create a full measure rest. But I don't see how to do both at the
same time. a4\REST doesn't work.

you can set a 'note name' to a rest to position it vertically on
the stave.
