Hi Gerald,
\addlyrics can't handle polyphony. See NR v.2.13. You should use
\lyricsto. You just forgot to add \new Lyrics:
\new Lyrics \lyricsto "soprano" { please help }
If you'd like to have the lyrics in between the two staves you have
to add:
\layout { \context { \PianoStaff \accepts Lyrics } }
