What you want to do should be pretty easy. There is a utility called abc2ly
that converts music coded in ABC notation into LilyPond code. If you are
familiar with traditional music you may already know that there is a huge
volume of traditional music (fiddle, whistle, etc.) on the Net in ABC format.
Your task may be as easy as downloading the tunes you want in ABC format and
converting them to LilyPond format.
LilyPond also has a book feature allowing you to prepare your whole book using
LilyPond.
