Hey there, I don't know if this will work with version 2.12, but I had a similar issue with a thing I was fiddling around with using 2.14.2 Had a measure of eighth notes that were all grouped under one beam; wanted three pairs.
Square brackets did the trick:
\relative c'' {
\time 3/4
g8[ e] cis[ a] b[ cis]
}
