You can apply the command to 'X-extent, too.  The following will give you
the same result as the overrides Harm included in \arpeggioStrikeUp and
\arpeggioStrikeDown:

\offset Arpeggio #'X-extent #'(-0.4 . -0.4)

If you are going to use this approach, recognize that you won't be
offsetting from the values of 'X-extent created by the overrides Harm
included in his functions, rather LilyPond's default values.
