You could place a working footnote nearby and fake the number in the lyrics:

\footnote " " #'(0.0 . 0) \markup { \super 1 Footnote for lyrics. }
c' c'
}
\addlyrics { The Ly -- \markup \concat { ric\super 1 } test. }
That's ugly, but it would look like a footnote.
