My fault. You can actually just let LilyPond figure out the right
context itself by writing
\layout {
\overrideTimeSignatureSettings
3/4 % timeSignatureFraction
1/4 % baseMomentFraction
#'(1 1) % beatStructure
#'() % beamExceptions
}
_That's_ what "use music in output definitions" means. What I wrote
instead was rather "use music in context definitions", and I got the
wrong context, to boot.
