Hard to know what you are talking about. There are two possible
answers: you are talking about the \upBow (a bowing instruction). Or
you are talking about the rest in the second voice (the div. indicates
splitting into two voices, and the second voice is supposed to keep
quiet here).
Thanks, it is indeed a rest, which I misinterpreted as a articulation.
