The melody is a different instrument. > Besides, even if the C is omitted on the first beat it will sound on > the second and third. > >> With regard to playing on the open string, I've basically >> taken the phrasing as I would do it on a violin. > > But if you were going to play a chord on the violin following the run > I bet you would like to have the B on an open string so that you could > get your left hand ready for the chord. Actually, I prefer it to play on the G string with the fourth finger since I can then already place the barrée (which only needs first and second finger in the first measure and requires a solid placement for the bass tone) in leisure rather than both slamming it on (and there was the suggestion to use hammer-on for the phrasing) _and_ plucking it in two different places on the beat. And it allows me to use a p-m-i-p-m-i-p-m-i plucking technique for the faster of the two runs if I don't believe in hammering. > My answer to your original question is "no" if you insist on the Bs > being played on the G string and the Cs following the Bs. Hm. I'm not convinced so I'll give my guitar a bit of a workout and try extrapolating to a somewhat better player from there. Of course, I can't enforce any particular execution anyway so I'm probably overthinking this, but I still like not to be absurd. >> But I probably should at least remove the string indications in the >> normal Staff. > > I don't see any reason to keep them, since a guitarist is going to > play the run as he sees fit whether or not you include the string > indications.
