I'm at my wits end.

I've been trying to get my Gravis Classic to work with my external MIDI
setup for some time now. I've been eagerly awaiting new releases of
kernels and drivers (both OSS and Perex) but to no avail.

I'm using the following:

Gravis Classic
RedHat 4.2
2.0.32 Kernel
OSS Free 3.8x4
Lowrey Microgenie (don't laugh... it makes for an adequate trigger)
Roland D110
Jazz 3.0r

(Anything else I should provide?)

The problem isn't getting this setup to work... it does work.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work well. After playing several chords or
patterns, the D110's MIDI message light will stay on, and a note will get
"hung". From then on, any playing I do will sound very industrial. (One
note, very low. :) )

My questions are as follows:

1) Is Kernel 2.0.X able to handle the real-time requirements of Jazz? I'd
like to find out before I take the plunge and totally screw my system up.

2) Does the latest perex drivers handle external MIDI well? If not, when
is the ETA?

3) I'm looking into getting a new soundcard with the recent announcement
that Gravis is no longer supporting my beastie. Anybody doing MIDI with a
similar setup on a different sound card? What drivers and kernel are you
using?

I apologize for the length of this message, and how specific it is, but
I'm getting very agitated with MIDI and Linux on this card.

If anyone would like to help out with this, I would greatly appreciate it.
Please e-mail me with your answers, and I'll compile a listing for the
lists to save traffic, especially with the sound card recommendations).

Thanks, all, for making Linux what it is today. :)
