Thought I'd knock off four subjects with one post here...

Been hanging out on Phil Greenspun's (totally excellent) photo.net lately,
and it's got me kind of convinced to start archiving my photos with Kodak's
PhotoCD. It's a proprietary format, which sucks, but I understand that Linux
has support to read this -- anyone out there have much experience with this?

I just tried the latest 2.x version of Boris Nagels' Multitrack program, and
it's great! He's made a lot of improvements to it -- full duplex is now
supported for the Gravis Ultrasound, you can cut and past parts of tracks to
other tracks, the song length can be increased or decreased, it can sample
off of CDs, and it has an X mode. Plus, it can import/export WAV files. This
makes 100% digital multitrack recording a reality.

Good book recommendation: _Unix Power Tools_ by O'Reilly. Second edition
just came out, it's huge (750+ pages), and worth the $50. Not exactly
linart-related, but I got my money's worth on this book after the first week
-- it's a collection of short tips and tricks for using Unix, shows lots of
interesting/unique uses for commands and combinations of them. I like that.
Actually, the format of this book is very much like how I see that linux
user guide looking that we were talking about a while back.

Linart's subscription rate has skyrocketed in the past month or so -- there
are now just over 150 people subscribed to the list! But it's been kinda
quiet these days...so, what's everyone been up to?
