The recipients printed the thing themselves. I included instructions, not
that they needed them for a simple pre-formatted collate, fold, and staple
job. That way, they could print "as needed" when they hired new drivers,
instead of having a whole stack of books getting stale in a storeroom.

The promotion was done entirely in a private transportation-related 
newsgroup. In fact, that was where the idea started. I'd written a manual
for Royal Cab in Baltimore and a taxi regulator asked my boss -- online --
if I could write one for the Province of Ontario. A couple of other cab
company owners chimed in, offered to pay, we dickered, I wrote. Or rather,
rewrote what I'd already done for Royal.

I think this will become common for industry "employee" manuals before
long, although it may take less progressive industries a while to catch up
with us cab and limo guys, who tend to be a bit brighter than people in
