I think pristine source is essential. But exactly what "pristine source" is
is another matter -- for software, you just have to release the final source
code; no cvs trees or anything else. If you have a recording and want to
sample it for your own work, the preferred form is a copy of the recording
on whatever medium its released (audio cd or whatever). An mp3 file might be
ok to use for many purposes, but cdda is better. Of course, they could just
buy a copy of the cd and sample that...
