Hello,
For a geeky electronica gig in london I hacked a perl script that outputs
threads from a mailing list as MIDI in realtime, all under linux.
Put simply (because it is pretty simple) it reads in all the digests from
the list, turning a years worth of posts into 10 minutes of freaky audio.
Each thread is given a random MIDI instrument, note and velocity, and each
time a message is posted to the thread, that note is played.
It works pretty well with the mailing list I ran it with, because the
people on it can never be bothered to change the subject line to match
topic drift, and there are usually a few threads going at any one time.
Anyway, the code:

Just thought some members of this list might be interested, particularly
in the RealtimeMIDI module (in pure perl). If anyone ends up playing with
it, please let me know :)
And sorry about the rambling, I need more sleep.
