Hi,
This is my "introduce yourself" message to the group.
I've just got started with linux after a long history with the products of the evil empire. I'm still rather dependant on them as many of the tools I use haven't been ported, but I look forward to the day when my computer can be gates free.
I've been involved on and off with computer music since the early 80's - it wasn't quite punch cards, but it was overnight batch processing for a few seconds of sound. Most of my music of recent times has been musique concrete with digital techniques substituted for razor blades, but I am hoping to get enough study time in on csound et al to include more software synthesis in the mix.
I'm also desparate to get my C++ chops up to scratch and get into some development of linux audio tools. There's nothing like writing 'em yourself! So far linux seems alternately wonderful and impossible, but I guess that's standard stuff. My musical appreciation of linux is somewhat limited by my ignorance getting in the way of installing a driver for my sound card right now - there are obviously some arcane secrets behind this stuff which are currently beyond me.
I shall perservere and look forward to contributing to the group in the near future.
cheers
/Brian
