Yup, several Perl scripts working in harmony (and disharmony).

This is a good approach to ambient music, but hard to do with any success.  
How can you make a computer sample mood from a room?  People have tried
this kind of thing in clubs and so on.  I haven't got any references
though I'm afraid.

http://fals.ch are doing the same thing but taking parameters from the
digital domain, generating live to an mp3 stream.  This is a more natural
thing for computers to do I think.  Very interesting, and a beautiful
sound.

Looks like they're resting at the moment though.
