LNS’s Pre-K/K program is a mix of older 4 year olds to 6 year olds. The
children have either just missed the cutoff date to turn 5 for kindergarten or
in many cases, the students are  kindergarten-eligible based on their age and
chose to have their kindergarten year at LNS.

“It’s giving your child the gift of time where they can further develop social
and emotional skills. And be able to learn through play which as research has
shown is instrumental to their cognitive development,” says longtime Lincoln
Nursery School Director, Nancy Fincke.

About LNS's Pre-K/K Classroom

Studio Red is Lincoln Nursery School’s Pre-K/K classroom. Typically the age
range in September is older fours, fives and six year old children.  True to
the philosophy of Lincoln Nursery School, the curriculum supports children’s
learning through play; it is their work.  The learning is deeply rooted in
projects, guided by the children's interests and teachers’ goals for learning.
Teachers provide a wide range of tools to extend children’s curiosity and
challenge their understandings. We respect the pace of each child’s learning.
Teachers embed Pre-K and Kindergarten concepts within the project based work.

Our teachers skillfully nurture each child’s development. Teachers ask
questions through play and use hands-on direct instruction to encourage
children to explore all aspects of learning including reading, writing, and
math.  After a year in Studio Red, families can choose for their child to move
to Kindergarten or First Grade. Our alumni families have reported that their
children felt well prepared for both experiences.
