Sent Thursday night Jan 6 from LPS Superintendent Becky McFall:
Total known COVID-19 cases within school community since December 24th - 120
positive cases, 32 staff and 88 students
Dear Lincoln Schools Community,
Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, we have not experienced a rate
of positive cases anything like what has occurred since December 23, 2022.
Responding to reports of positive cases and carrying out testing and contact
tracing precluded us from immediately informing the community of every positive
case this week. Our numbers below may have a small margin of error but we have
put together what we believe is an accurate accounting of the known positive
cases as of the end of the school day today.
We expect more cases to be reported in the coming week or two and we are
hopeful that the trend will then take a downward turn. Reports from families
and staff indicate that most cases are relatively mild with a small number that
are more moderate. Our thoughts go out to everyone impacted by this virus and
hope that everyone is able to get through this time without longterm impact.
As always, we urge everyone to take the necessary precautions to minimize the
transmission of the COVID-19 virus. We will continue to provide information
about positive cases in the coming weeks to ensure that the community is
informed about the number of positive cases within our schools.
Be well,
Becky McFall, Superintendent
January 6 COVID Report
The below data reflects COVID cases from January 6th and this week. Many
individuals and families are currently awaiting the results of PCR tests, so
this data is preliminary and additional cases may be identified. The district’s
COVID data dashboard is updated regularly with new case data as it is received.
Overall
Today, 25 new positive cases in the district were identified.
Lincoln School K-4: 9 students
Lincoln School 5-8: 10 students, 1 staff
Lincoln Preschool at Hanscom: 1 staff
Hanscom Primary School: 1 student, 1 staff
Hanscom Middle School: 1 student, 1 staff
15 of these cases were identified through pooled testing and 2 through rapid
testing of close contacts in the Test-and-Stay program.
Pooled Testing
31 pools returned a presumptive positive or inconclusive result. All other
pools were negative. All families of the students in the presumptive positive
or inconclusive pool were notified. Individual PCR tests for the members of
these pools are currently underway at the testing lab. While we await the
individual PCR results, all members of these pools that were in school today
were tested with a rapid antigen test and 15 positive cases were found:
5 at Lincoln School K-4
6 at Lincoln School 5-8
1 at Lincoln Preschool at Hanscom
1 at Hanscom Primary School
2 at Hanscom Middle School
Several other pools have presumed positives that were not in school today due
to having developed symptoms after pooled testing on Tuesday. Individual PCR
tests are being run for all members of the presumptive positive pools, and we
will notify families of individual student results and send a weekly pooled
testing report once all of those results are received.
Please note: The testing lab at the Broad Institute is experiencing heavy
demand and we may not have full PCR results until this weekend.
Test and Stay
Today, 223 individuals who were identified as close contacts were tested as
part of the district’s Test-and-Stay program. 1 student at Lincoln School K-4
and 1 student at Lincoln School 5-8 tested positive.
Overall, this week 388 tests have been carried out through the Test-and-Stay
program and 9 positive cases have been found. In addition, 11 positive staff
cases were identified on Sunday through rapid testing prior to the return from
break.
