My Bosch is supposed to go down to 56 decibels. I thought I wouldn't hear
it but I can. It's not irritating--it's a soft low frequency whirring, but
I can hear the whirring from the second floor even when my window is shut.
Of course, when my window is open, the heat pump is not running, so there's
that. I think the A/Cs in the neighborhood are louder, but they are also
older and less efficient, etc. I don't know how the Bosch compares noise
wise to a new high end A/C. You could check the decibels on the model you
are considering. Apparently 60 decibels is the loudness of a normal
conversation.
