Mr. Hogue, Thank you for laying out some general areas of objectives. But, as the saying goes, the devil is in the details, and here, the details are few.
So, I am hoping you might address some of the following in tonight’s candidate forum. 1) Housing-in Lincoln, this is a motherhood-and-apple-pie issue, and has been since the 70s. But adding more housing is tricky. Where would you suggest we add more housing that is affordable and does not displace existing residents? How would you expand housing options while increasing our tax base? Most housing requires services that often exceed the residential tax they generate, expect for house over $1.5 mill. (the Assessors can correct this here). 2)Economic Development-How much of a revenue stream to the town do you project for increasing tourism? How many tourists would it take to make a difference and to offset the cost of the capital investment in infrastructure? 3) Promote our Community and fund town events-What additional events do you see the Selects adding to the calendar? How do you see these events reflecting our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion in programming? 4) Taxes-that old saw. You say you want to makae sure we have a fiscally responsible budget. Does that suggest past budgets were not? In order to reduce taxes, cuts need to be made. As personnel are the biggest portion of all town budget, and schools have the largest number of personnel, would you entertain recommending budget cuts at the schools? And, what programs for senior tax relief would you suggest adding to what already exists and how would you pay for it?
