We walk almost every day along Farrar so the idea of having biking and walking
lanes is great. However, the solution is not: The dotted lines direct drivers
to go down the middle, but that can actually be and feel more unsafe for
walkers who are walking against traffic, as they should.
Unfortunately, the lines have done nothing to deter the many, many speeders, so
now we are wary of drivers coming from both directions.
I drove on a road in Newton where in a similar situation they did not use
dotted lines but repeated the biking icon every 50 yards or so. I knew to be
aware of pedestrians and bikers but stayed to the right side of the road
otherwise. I think this might have been a better solution.
