Apparently at least one reader misunderstood my comments. They were cynical predictions of the anticipated responses from the entities named, not my advocacy of anything!
And, in fact, within the last hour, those are exactly the responses from both the GOP and the NRA. My own advocacy would be for sweeping reform-banning assault weapons, banning high-capacity magazines, comprehensive background checks with a long waiting period, etc.etc. A girl can dream.
