We are pleased to invite you to our upcoming Foundation Trust Speaker
Series event, *Turning the Tide: Parenting in the Wake of Past Trauma*.

*Date:* Thursday, September 29

*Time:* 7:00 – 8:30pm

*Location:* Medford Public Library, 111 High Street, Medford, MA

For adults who are living with the painful effects of their own childhood
environment and upbringing, becoming a parent and/or becoming a caregiver
to a child may introduce a variety of new emotional and functional
challenges. Jana Pressley, Psy.D. and Kaitlyn Wilson, LICSW, will present a
new resource at this community event, and offer suggestions and tools to
support parents and other caregivers in building self-awareness and
self-compassion as they navigate their parenting journeys.

“Parenthood challenges can be further exacerbated for trauma survivors,
because there’s an added layer of past traumatic experiences that can make
reactions or activities feel outside of our control. It is important for us
to show people that what happened to them in the past does not have to
dictate the relationship they have with their children,” said Dr. Jana
Pressley.

“The event will explore the potential growth and resilience a survivor can
have within their parenting journey. By honoring and acknowledging their
past and obtaining new insights and skills, they can gain the confidence
needed to parent in the wake of childhood trauma,” shared Kaitlyn Wilson,
LICSW.

This gathering will also be an opportunity to visit the Spinazzola Family
Counseling Room, a dedicated space in the new Medford Public Library that
can be used by area social workers, psychologists, and related
professionals to meet community-based counseling needs.

Light refreshments will be served.

Please feel free to share this invitation with anyone you think may benefit.

Thank you,

Lauren
