POLISHING AN ARCHITECTURAL GEM THE 1948 SCHWANN HOUSE LINCOLN, MASSACHUSETTS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 16 2:00-5:00 PM
The 1948 Schwann House was designed by noted architect Walter Bogner, a resident of Lincoln and a professor of architecture at Harvard. Bogner designed the house for the young William Schwann, an organist and musicologist. Schwann became widely known for publishing the Schwann Music catalogue. New York Times music writer Anthony Tomassini described Schwann’s name as being “synonymous with record collecting as the name of Baedeker is to travel and Bartlett is to quotations.” Please join us to see, learn about, and “listen” inside this small gem of a house and its studio, beautifully designed to enhance the enjoyment of nature and of listening to music. Tours will be led FoMA Board members Matt Andersen-Miller, who has recently restored the house, and Woodie Arthur. They will speak about the restoration of the house, about Bogner’s design, and about the Schwanns' love for the house. Tour cost: $50.00 per person. Proceeds support FoMA’s mission of preservation, documentation, and education about Modern architecture. Tours of the house and studio will be offered from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., starting every hour; please register on-line to receive an assigned time for your tour, limited to 12 people per tour.
