From School Committee Chair John MacLachlan:

In her 11th year as the Superintendent of the Lincoln Public Schools, Dr. Becky
McFall has decided to retire in June. Becky’s leadership brought many
improvements to the LPS district including a strong focus on teacher
collaboration, cross-district initiatives, strategic planning and execution,
and an awareness and commitment to Anti-racism, Inclusion, Diversity & Equity
(AIDE).

Becky developed great working relationships with Union leadership, Lincoln
administrators and committees. Over her tenure, the budget has always been
balanced, typically returning some funds to the town at the end of the year,
and she has negotiated several contracts with the Department of Defense to
continue to run the Hanscom schools with equally high standards.

While we commend Becky for the day-to-day management of the district, the truly
exceptional component of her tenure with us has been her leadership through
three building projects and a global pandemic. Dr. McFall’s tireless
leadership, dedication and creative problem-solving is something that we are
grateful for and will not soon be forgotten.

There will be more time to celebrate and honor Dr. McFall’s retirement next
spring, as she still has a large “to do” list that she is looking forward to
accomplishing this year.

As for the School Committee, we acknowledge that hiring our next superintendent
is a critical task to ensure the District is set up for future success. To
that end, we have engaged the services of the Edward J. Collins Center of the
University of Massachusetts Boston to assist with this important task. Dr.
John R. Brackett, a search consultant with the Collins Center and former
Superintendent in neighboring towns, will be assisting the School Committee
with the search process. Dr. Brackett will be holding an orientation on the
search process on October 3rd, and we welcome members of the community to
attend (more details to follow).

The Lincoln School Committee is eager to provide several opportunities for
faculty, staff, parents, and community groups to play a very important role in
the search process. In the weeks to come, we will be sharing further
information on how you can provide input into what qualifications and
characteristics are important for our next leader, including surveys, focus
groups, and an opportunity to participate on the Superintendent Screening
Committee.

We look forward to beginning a thoughtful and thorough search process to select
the next leader for our District.

On behalf of the School Committee,

John MacLachlan, Chairperson
