Dear Lincoln,
There has been a lot of discussion on LT about the schools recently, and as a current member of the School Committee and candidate for reelection, I would like to briefly share my thoughts. I joined the School Committee with the goal of providing our students with the best education possible for the best value to the taxpayer. As the product of public schools for my entire academic career, I know the value of a great public education; I also understand that we cannot price people out of their homes or put an undue financial burden on people for this purpose. During my tenure on the School Committee, I have focused on our academic standards. Over the last few years, we have made progress in getting reports and data in this area, and this year, in the proposed budget, the schools are adjusting some staff to be learning coaches to help increase achievement in our schools. As some have mentioned, we have seen a decline in our enrollment in recent years, but this decline appears to be leveling off. I continue to be an advocate for more diverse housing options in town, as I have been for years, not just to address the housing crisis in our state but to also stabilize our school population while increasing our tax base. The work is not done. We have issues that need to be addressed in the schools and I will continue to be an advocate for change. As my oldest child will begin in the public schools next fall, I am acutely aware of the need to continue this work. I hope to earn your vote to continue to serve on the School Committee. Adam M Hogue 50 Lincoln Road Candidate for Re-Election P.S. Thank you to everyone that signed my nomination papers to get me on the ballot for reelection!
