Hi LT! We have an UPDATE to the collection for the Children’s Clothing Exchange
& CASPAR. First, we’d like to thank LT for the many generous donations already
received.

Next, in light of the major earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, we are finishing
our collection of winter clothing for CCE/CASPAR as of today (2/8). NOTE: We
will continue to collect stuffed animals and the following children’s toys as
scheduled, through Fri Feb 17. These items are given free of charge to CCE’s
clients:

Stuffed animals
Dolls
Action figures
Cars & trucks
Dress-up clothes
Educational toys
Puzzles
Board games
Computer games
DVD and VHS movies

I’m forwarding Brianna Doo’s email below—to help direct further donations of
winter clothing (and other needed items) to the LPS Student Council’s
collection.

Many thanks again to the LT community for your generosity!

All best,
Sarah Liepert

Subject: [LincolnTalk] LPS Student Council Earthquake Collection

Good afternoon! I would like to share an opportunity being organized by the LPS
grades 5-8 Student Council (guided by 5th grade teacher, Ms. Davis) and the
Turkish Families in our community.

As many of you know, on Monday, two major earthquakes measuring 7.8 and 7.5 hit
Syria and Turkey. Hundreds of aftershock earthquakes have been recorded since
then. At this time, authorities estimate an incomprehensible loss of life-
11,000 people- nearly double the population of Lincoln, MA, with 43,000 injured.

We have students in our LPS community whose families come from the region
devastated by the earthquakes. In a show of support and community, beginning
today through next Thursday afternoon (2/16) the Student Council will be
collecting donations for those affected. In the face of acute suffering and
immeasurable loss, our students are choosing action. You may send items in with
your student or drop them in the main office. If you are attending the middle
school concert tonight, there will be a collection box there. A heartfelt thank
you from the Student Council for your support.

Here are a few updates to some FAQ:

  * All donations are being coordinated by a local family (Thank you Arslan
Family!). The donations are being coordinated with the Turkish Consulate in
Boston. All items will be placed on Turkish Airlines direct flight to Istanbul
within a day of collection (February 18). After transport, all items are
brought to the nearest functioning airport to be delivered directly into the
disaster zone. No funds are needed to help with transporting these goods.
  * IF you would like to make a monetary donation, you may do so here:
