I’ve been working with Senator Barrett and other local leaders on a response to
the large North Airfield expansion. This project aims to create 495,000 square
feet of hangar space for corporate and private jets on the north side of
Hanscom Field. Massport and the developers have expressed concern for the
environment and indicated it will be done in an environmentally friendly way.

We plan to hold them to their word and are asking the state Executive Office of
Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) to require that all aircraft based in
the new hangars operate entirely without use of fossil fuels.

One option this would leave the developers is to base electric aircraft here.
While not quite here, there are about 200 companies trying to produce electric
aircraft and some are very close to production.

Area leaders and residents have many concerns about this project but we are
staying laser focussed on the climate change impact resulting from expanded use
of private jets. We think this is our best strategy based on experience from
many previous expansion projects.
